The Open returns to Royal Troon Golf Club this year. In 2004 Todd Hamilton won The Open at Royal Troon beating Ernie Els in a playoff. This year… Well, there are a lot of guys that could win. After back-to-back wins, Dustin Johnson is on fire right now. Jordan Spieth is playing good, and Jason Day can’t be ignored.Heck, you can’t look past Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and Bubba Watson.
Royal Troon has a lot of history. The club kicked things off in 1878, and this will be the ninth time The Open has been held here. Click here to learn more about the history of the golf course. There are some pretty cool pictures on their website, too.
I also found the leaderboard from 2004. Guys like Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, Retief Goosen and Tiger Woods littered the top 10. I must say, I am a little upset Tiger won’t be in the field this year. I don’t really watch golf on TV if he isn’t playing. Did you know Tiger has won this event 3 times?
The next TOUR event is The Greenbrier Classic at The Old White TPC Golf Course followed by the Barbasol Championship at Grand National. Then The Open Championship kicks off on July 14th, 2016. Oh, and the purse for this event… A mere $9,300,000. Guys, play well.
