On a perfect Southern spring Sunday, surrounded by banks of pink and white and scarlet azaleas in full bloom, with the third round memory of a string of five birdies and nerves of steel, Bubba Watson relentlessly played his way past youngster Jordan Spieth and claimed his second green jacket.
It was Bubba at his finest. He finished the first round at 69, 3 shots under par, and lead the field, then extended that lead with a second round of 68. Jordan overtook him in the third round and looked good to become a Masters Tournament rookie winner early in the fourth round. But by the 8th hole, it was Bubba’s tournament to win or lose.
