If you haven’t heard of him yet, don’t worry, you will… Soon. Victor Dubuisson conquered his internal demons, and a world-class field to win his first European Tour golf tournament on Sunday at the Turkish Airlines Open. He beat a couple of players you probably have heard of. Tiger Woods, Justin Rose and Ian Poulter.
The young Frenchman, ranked 108 in the Official World Golf Rankings now has status on all tours. The win gets him a two-year exemption on the European Tour, and moving him inside of the top 50 in the world gains him access to all of the WGC events.
More importantly for 2013, it gives the young Frenchman a chance to play for a Race To Dubai this week at the DP World Tour Championships, Dubai, and potentially a huge check.
Dubuisson stated his Sunday with a five shot lead, and largely due to nerves, made only pars on the front nine. He fought off the demons in his head, and traded a birdie for a bogey early on the back. After seeing Jamie Donaldson making a big move, he kicked it up a notch, and birdied three of the final four holes to log the victory. The future is bright for Victor Dubuisson.
