We’ve been hearing a lot about PXG… But what is it? Is it a new performance enhancing drug? Is it a new cable TV channel? Is it a hot new nightclub? Nope… PXG stands for Parsons Xtreme Golf. Continue reading “PXG: Golf Clubs Unlike Any Other”

The 2014 PGA TOUR season is officially underway. Well, in 2014, anyway. The TOUR season actually started last year, but we won’t get into that here. As always, the first event of the year is in Hawaii on Maui at Kapalua. I actually had the chance to visit Kapalua while I was in Maui, and even met with Mike Jones and got a tour of the facility. Needless to say, it was incredible. I was there the week before the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, and got the chance to meet with several PGA TOUR players and met several folks from the Golf Channel.
The tournament was fun, and on Monday (a rare Monday finish) several guys had a chance to win incuding Jordan Spieth. He is, oh, 20 years old and would have, if he had won, become the youngest to win the event. On Monday, no one could touch Zach. He won, and has won 3 of 6 events. He is headed to Oahu for the Sony Open confident, tan and ready to make 2014 his best year yet.
Below is what Zach played last week in Hawaii.

Can Zach win a major in 2014? Actually, I would be OK if ONLY Tiger won majors in 2014. But again, that is for another time. When all was said and done, Zach was pretty happy holding the trophy on 18 green.
Jordan Spieth is a closer. The kid, and I do mean kid, knocked in a bunker shot to force a playoff at the 2013 John Deere Classic. He was playing with David Hearn and defending champion Zach Johnson. He made some crucial putts coming down the stretch, and carried the playoff to 5 holes. Then, when all 3 players hit it right off the tee, it was down to the guy with the best lie. Johnson was right behind a tree and would eventually end up wet. Hearn went left, but had a chance if he could drain a long sweeping putt from off the green. Then Spieth hit. He was not sure what club to hit, and changed right before he swung. He picked the right stick and was just past the pin. He would go on to win his first PGA TOUR event. Oh, and I forgot to mention he is only 19-years-old!
Jordan has been making a lot of noise this year on TOUR, and earned his PGA TOUR card with his win on Sunday. He also earned a spot in The Open Championship AND an invite to play in the Masters next year. Not a bad day for a kid that can only celebrate with a soda pop! I wonder if he can drink at The Open Championship… Anyway, Jordan played great and deserved that win. I’ll drink to that! The kid has a TON of talent, and I am excited to see what is next for this guy.
A few months ago I had the chance to meet Jordan. Well, we connected in a Google+ Hangout. I actually have a connection to Jordan. He played in The Spirit International, and I asked him about that in this Hangout. He’s quite humble for his age, and I hope to see more wins from him soon. Speaking of wins, here is what was in his bag at the John Deere. Go low, Jordan!
